Promotion to the South Wales Alliance Football League Division 2 from local Leagues

Published by swfa on

The Association met tonight to consider the issue of promotion from local leagues to Division Two of the South Wales Alliance Football League.

Although we had hoped to be able to arrange play-off matches as in previous years, this has proved impossible owing to the COVID 19 situation and we have been advised it is unlikely we will be given permission to arrange such games prior to the start of the new season.

Accordingly, it was decided to award promotion to the three highest placed clubs based upon an unweighted points per game average of their playing records during the 2019/20 League season.

Based upon final tables published, the teams were ranked as follows

AFC Abercynon 2.000
Bettws – 2.813
Fairwater – 2.636
Gwynfi United – 2.692*
Island Marine – 2.400
Nelson Cavaliers – 2.714
Tongwynlais – 2.444
Treherbert BGC – 2.667*

It is therefore resolved that Bettws and Nelson Cavaliers are promoted to the South Wales Alliance Football League.  The figure given for Gwynfi United does not include a deduction of fifteen points imposed by the Port Talbot League which is subject to an appeal pending at the Football Association of Wales. Dependent upon the outcome of this appeal, Treherbert BGC may become the third promoted team in place of Gwynfi United. All promotions are subject to passing a ground criteria inspection.
